The Eagle or The Trumpian Snake

It has always noteworthy that the United States of America does not take care of its own people.

Of course, the most obvious example of this is their lack of healthcare. We all know that Canadian healthcare is imperfect, but we are grateful for it and proud of our collective desire to ensure everyone has access. We like the ideals that founded our system, and we even applaud the teeth gnashing that chides the program, laments the wait times, and challenges it all to be better.

As the USA attacks the world order by aligning with the malevolent, as the soft diplomacy of aid is eviscerated, as the country’s leaders attack their intellectuals and scientific labs and as the marginalized groups are pressed down under a mean fat thumb, the words of Elon Musk ring clearly as the motto of the current administration, “Empathy is weakness”.

Half the population of the country has adopted this motto.  The country is acting on it with an aggression the betrays its worst instincts. The eagle is swooping down and grabbing kittens in its talons.

But what happens when the cat is nimble. Trump is frustrated with Zelensky so Trump is adapting. He is now employing the method of the snake; slithering underground, listening for the heartbeats and employing his voicebox minions to spread wild rumours. The outcome is uncertain. Trump’s Republicans thought they could swoop on Canada and pluck their fill.  But Canadians are not having it either and the bird has been surprised.

This is the Year of the Trumpian Snake. It remains to be seen if the superpower will be represented by a new emblem.  Will the snake eat the eagle’s eggs?  It’s up to the Americans. The rest of the world can help them save their nobility by resisting the serpent. They seem to need time to allow the better eagles of their nature to mend their wings and push the snake out of the nest.

This will affect all things we Canadians do, including real estate. Interest rates, mortgage rates, the financial markets…all will respond. More to come.
