Cardinal Rule

THE PRIME
…and so, with the unemployment rate jumping to 6.8% the Bank of Canada reduced the rate by 50 basis points. The prime lending rate is now 3.25%.

SALES ACTIVITY
See the chart below. November sales numbers show a year-over-year volume increase of 40.1%. We shouldn’t get too excited.  Let’s see if a trend establishes. These numbers compare to last year’s volume which was very low. We are still operating at about a 2014 activity level.  Showings and offers in the 416 have slowed.

HAPPINESS
My happiest clients balance their thinking about house transactions. They know well that a house can help build wealth and that owning one is a gateway to financial stability. However, it is primarily their home; home is the place that helps them realize their best lives and selves. Not sacrificing the latter for the sake of the former is a caution worth floating.

At a previous home of mine I stood at the kitchen window and watched the cardinal on the euonymus bush.  I saw him in white January sunshine. At first, I had a baby in my arms, and then babies perched on my hips and later toddlers stood at the windows pointing little fingers at red feathers.

Those birds and trees and the steadiness of the home were better than the excellent selling price that was later realized when the house became too small, and the job moved away. Sure, financially we did fine, but personally we soared.

I tell my clients. Get the house and…

Sell the house if growth and possibility are on your doorstep.
